SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Swiss/Italian tenor Livio Gabrielli graduated from the Zurich conservatoire, where he was tutored by Jane Mengedoht. He had already reached the semi-finals of the international singing competition Francisco Viñas in Barcelona, during his education and training; he sang the leading role in the opera Der Graf von Luxemburg by Lehár and he did a hundred performance tour as Tamino, in Mozarts Zauberflöte. Over the years he has performed as a soloist in Zurich, Basel, Italy, France (Festival de Nantes), Bilbao (cond. Michel Corboz), Geneva (Victoria-Hall), and naturally also on several Dutch platforms, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He also sang leading roles in Viva la mamma by Donizetti and was invited by the Hoofdstadoperette Amsterdam to sing the role of Tassilo in Kálmán’s Gräfin Mariza for a whole season. After that the role of Paris, in La belle Hélène by Offenbach; Ferrando in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte; Elvino in La Sonnambula by Bellini and in Germany again, Die Zauberflöte. He sang the role of Fenton in Verdi’s opera Falstaff on a tour in Italy that culminated in a peak performance in the Regio di Parma Theatre. After that he was asked to sing title roles in Ernani; Oronte in I Lombardi; Ismaele in Nabucco and Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata (conducted by Arjan Tien) and Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana by Mascagni. He has performed in Belgium a number of times, with the Orkest der Lage Landen, conducted by Walter Proost, with the program ‘Hommage à Mario Lanza’. He is pleased to be regarded as an oratorio singer. His repertoire includes the most important works of Bach, Händel, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Berlioz, Gounod, Martin, Honegger and Orff. He regularly sings aria’s from the Matthäus and the Johannes Passion; the Petite Messe Solennelle; Rossini’s Stabat Mater; Puccini’s Messa di Gloria; Verdi’s Requiem and works of Frank Martin and Arthur Honegger. He had the good fortune to be born and raised in a bilingual and culture loving environment, which explains his preference for the French and Italian lyric repertoire, a repertoire that holds no secrets for him. Livio Gabrielli was trained by the tenor Nicolai Gedda for a number of years. His current coaches are Gemma Visser and Peter Lockwood. Besides his work as a solo vocalist he has developed a true passion for working as a vocal coach and he currently trains an increasing number of amateur and professional singers
